As you can see (from the following two videos) making your own glass beads at home is not something you learn in a few minutes of your spare time. You need to set up a safe work area and you need to get several “somewhat” expensive items to do the  bead work (called flameworking). But don’t be discouraged if you are really interested as it’s a thrill to create your own, unique beads and it could even be profitable if you become skillled in the art of beadmaking. Enjoy the videos. (From www.HarlanGlass.com)

leaded glass repair

Try www.Scewfix.com

snap-on tools usa set of 4 socket glasses/tumblers with metal effect glass

Try searching for them on eBay or Froogle.

I dont want to buy a glass cutter and simply breaking them off and leaving a sharp edge is no good either.

Zowar has the right idea, but instead of using a lighter, use some cotton string rubbed with wax. Wrap the wax coated string where you want the glass to break. light it, and let it burn for about 30 secs. Run the glass under tap water. It will break where the string was. Be sure to hold the glass upside down while the string is burning to keep the heat off of the glass bell.
